Alfa Romeo fans love to go on and on about beauty and soul, but we’re talking about a modern-day Formula One car here. We’re just lucky this isn’t the year of the penis nose with those. Sauber unveiled their Alfa-branded F1 livery today, and it’s okay. It’s not a gorgeous 4C in F1 car form. It’s just okay.
Formula One has been slowly trying to make it easier for fans to tell its cars apart, mandating easy to see name abbreviations and bigger numbers. However, you still kind of have to squint to see those at speed. Clearly, what F1 needs are giant pictures of the driver on the side, because that actually kind of rules.
As Australia debates whether to recognize same-sex marriage, this Holden racing team made very clear where it stands.
You never really know who’s holding on to a NASCAR grudge until the next race. Given how Kyle Busch isn’t really commenting on his make-nice chats with NASCAR officials and Joey Logano following last weekend’s fight, I’m not sure those talks accomplished much. Clearly, we need the “I Love You” car again.
Formula One team Force India has a shockingly goofy looking car for 2017. There is one surefire way to hide an ugly car in motorsports, though: paint that sucker pink. Force India’s new livery is so pink, Barbie’s Dream Corvette feels inadequate. It is glorious.
Fire! I’m a huge fan. Some of my favorite holidays are the ones where I can blow stuff up with fireworks. I adore cars that shoot flames out the exhaust. And I think I have a new favorite race car.
Next year, Ferrari celebrates its 70th birthday. It’s a big deal! They made 70 different paint jobs just to celebrate it. Here are all 70 in one spot.
Happy Independence Day! Here’s all the America you could possibly want, in all the patriotic liveries that showed up to race during the 6 Hours of the Glen weekend at Watkins Glen. We’ll be back to our regular programming tomorrow, but for now, enjoy the holiday and be careful with those fireworks.
Formula One’s grid in recent years has been 50 shades of mind-numbing grey, which Renault Sport F1 Managing Director Cyril Abiteboul described to Motorsport.com as embarrassingly ugly. So, Renault wants to fix that, starting with a new bright yellow car and hopefully following up with a series of art cars.
You know that kid who really doesn’t want to do Halloween, but slapped a couple red stripes on his face and claims he’s Darth Maul? That’s the livery on McLaren’s new MP4-31 Formula One car this year: the world’s laziest attempt to look like Darth Maul. Hopefully that means all the effort went into the car rather than…
Matte finishes! If you thought you were rid of them in all their boring dullness in 2008, sorry. Without Infiniti to add purple highlights to this year’s Red Bull F1 car, the eXtReMe energy drink folks have opted for a plainer, duller livery rendered in the aftermarket’s terrible bro-finish of choice. It’s awful!
We debate the best and worst race car liveries–the decorative schemes that make race cars look distinctive and give visibility to sponsors—to the point where punches are thrown and tears are shed. But how are they made? To answer that question, we asked graphic designer Andy Blackmore to take us through the process.
Everyone knows I’m partial to cartoon liveries, but surely there’s other shows we’d like to see on a race car that aren’t old Cartoon Network shows or SpongeBob SquarePants. Tell us: which show have you binge-watched over the holida—err, um, would you like to see on a race car?
When racing fans all over the world know of a Porsche dealership in Florida, you know you’ve done something right with a livery. Sadly, we probably won’t be seeing Brumos Porsche’s iconic red, white and blue stripes on cars for much longer, as Sportscar365 reports that the dealership group has been sold.
[Ever seen a race livery this cool? Probably not. While most accept the racing season as over around this time of year, Late Model drivers head down to Pensacola, Florida for the annual Snowball Derby. This particular scheme has been around for a few years, and Josh Bragg piloted it this past weekend. He didn’t make…
If you’re the only American racing at the United States Grand Prix, you’ve got to play that up every way you can. Check out the star-spangled endplates on Alexander Rossi’s Manor Marussia Formula One car in Austin this weekend.
In August, we found reference to a bike called the Yamaha R1S in Yamaha’s CARB filings for 2016. We wondered whether it was a new bike or just a different naming structure. Well, the Yamaha R1S was announced today, and we think it’s the liter bike you should buy.
NASCAR’s throwback theme for the Southern 500 is one of the best one-offs I’ve ever seen in racing. Fans love the look back at the sport’s history, and it’s even prompted us to go down a rabbit hole browsing old photos of cool race cars. If this isn’t already going to be a yearly tradition, it should be.
NASCAR is hosting a theme party at this weekend’s Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway this weekend, complete with old logos and Anchorman-grade suits for the television broadcast. Check out some of the cool retro liveries that will grace the cars this weekend.
In celebration of that dude finally getting the “smoke weed every day” line right from The Next Episode, or perhaps an NWA biopic coming to theaters (maybe the latter I’m not sure), driver Tomy Drissi will be running a Straight Outta Compton livery on his NASCAR Xfinity series car.
